Our mission is to keep life's moments alive

At Christmas 2020, my wife Katka came up with the idea of printing photos on gifts instead of written name tags, so even the youngest could recognise their present under the Christmas tree.

The kids enthusiastically delivered gifts to their parents, grandparents and themselves. It worked wonderfully — the kids easily understood which gifts were theirs and handed the rest out to the family. It became a joyful game of recognising relatives and remembering the beautiful moments of the past year.

After two years of manually preparing printouts from photos sent by my wife, grandma and friends, I got the idea to build an app that would automatically arrange uploaded photos into a printable grid.

As a designer, I drafted the structure, the brand and the app. I needed a partner for the development.

Vít Rozsíval, a first-class developer, my friend since childhood and my wedding witness, came over for a week. We worked on it in the evenings and a few days later the first version of fotojmenovky.cz was born — photogifttags.com in English. Thank you so much for your help!

Several years have passed since the first version. There was little time for development, but ideas kept coming — along with the need for crop adjustments, more formats and options, and sharing projects and collaborating on them.

With the need to unify the name and deepen its use and sharing, the arrival of AI tools and an appetite to learn something new, I set out to rebuild photo tags from scratch under the name Kalury.

Now you have a tool that covers various photo tag sizes, lets you create creative works or collaborate on shared projects — and we'll see where this journey takes us.
